In the greater Ankole region of Uganda, farmers are celebrating a successful harvest season, with many crediting SNV, a Dutch development organization, for their increased yield in recent years.

According to local farmers, SNV has played a significant role in improving agricultural practices and providing access to new technologies, such as improved seeds and irrigation systems. This has resulted in higher crop yields and increased profits for farmers in the region.

One farmer, Jackson Turyahabwe, shared his experience with SNV’s programs. “Before working with SNV, I was struggling to make ends meet,” he said. “But since I started using their improved seeds and irrigation system, my yield has increased significantly. I’m now able to support my family and invest in my farm.”

SNV has been working with farmers in the greater Ankole region since 2014, implementing a range of interventions aimed at improving agricultural productivity and increasing income. These interventions include farmer training and education, access to finance and market linkages, and the introduction of new technologies and innovations.

The organization’s efforts have not gone unnoticed by the local government, with officials praising SNV for its contributions to the region’s development.

“We are very grateful to SNV for their work in our region,” said Alex Ruhunda, the district chairperson for Bushenyi district. “Their interventions have had a significant impact on our farmers, improving their livelihoods and boosting our local economy.”

As the global demand for food continues to grow, initiatives like SNV’s are becoming increasingly important in helping farmers meet this demand while also improving their own economic opportunities. With their success in the greater Ankole region, SNV is poised to continue making a positive impact on the lives of farmers in Uganda and beyond.
