Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from South Western Uganda, technology enthusiasts, and community leaders gathered on November 21-22, 2024, for a transformative conference titled “AI for CSOs: Localizing Artificial Intelligence for Grassroot Impact.” This highly engaging conference demonstrated the transformative role of artificial intelligence in addressing community challenges and promoting sustainable development. Co-funded by the European Union and organized in partnership with Kampala Analytica, German Cooperation, and GIZ, the conference provided a platform to explore innovative ways AI can empower grassroots organizations.
The conference featured presentations led by experts in AI and development from Kampala Analytics, focusing on the ethical use of AI, its accessibility, and strategies for aligning AI-driven solutions with local community needs. The conference also offered hands-on training on AI localization, equipping participants with practical skills to implement tailored solutions. Networking sessions fostered collaboration among CSO leaders, innovators, and tech enthusiasts, creating a vibrant exchange of ideas and opportunities for partnerships.
The participants also shared the challenges and barriers faced by grassroot organizations in adopting AI, emphasizing the need for inclusive and context-specific AI solutions. Success stories highlighted the power of AI in transforming community services and amplifying impact.
The conference, hosted at Igongo Country Hotel and Cultural Centre, underscored the importance of partnerships and collective action in driving localized innovation. Organizers expressed optimism about the conference’s outcomes, envisioning strengthened capacity among South Western Uganda’s CSOs to integrate AI into their work effectively.
