Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) congratulates Prof. David Kitya on his election as the new President of the Neurosurgical Society of Uganda. Prof. Kitya joined MUST in October 1993 as a lecturer in the department of surgery.
He rose up the ranks over the years and was appointed as a senior lecturer in December 2001, acting head of the department from 1999-2002, and associate professor in 2004. From October 2008-2011, Prof. Kitya trained in neurosurgery at Kenya National Referral Hospital in the department of Surgery.
He has also been recognized by the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa. Currently, Prof. Kitya is the Head of Neurosurgery at Mbarara Reginal referral hospital and has great experience in Trauma, Spine, and neurosurgery.
He is also an associate of Duke Global Neurosurgery and Neurology, which aims to promote health in low- and middle-income countries through a multi-faceted evidence-based, and collaborative approach to improve patient access to care and health outcomes, strengthen health systems, and inform policy.
The Neurosurgical Society of Uganda is a professional organization that brings together Neurosurgeons and other healthcare professionals with an interest in Neurosurgery in Uganda.
Its primary goal is to promote excellence in the practice of neurosurgery and improve patient care in Uganda through education, research, and advocacy.
The society also provides a platform for Neurosurgeons to share knowledge, expertise, and best practices, and to collaborate on research and training initiatives. It holds regular meetings, conferences, and workshops, and works closely with other organizations to advance the field of neurosurgery in Uganda and beyond.
