Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) made a groundbreaking move to advance innovation and entrepreneurship with the launch of the Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC) and MUST Holdings Company at its Kihumuro Campus. The event attracted dignitaries, academicians, researchers, students, and stakeholders from various sectors, marking a transformative moment in the university’s history.

The Technology and Innovation Support Centre is designed to provide essential resources to researchers and innovators, including access to patent information, technical expertise, and intellectual property management tools. This initiative is expected to enhance research capabilities and create an environment where innovative ideas can be developed into practical solutions to address local and global challenges. Speaking at the launch, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Pauline Byakika emphasized the importance of TISC in fostering a knowledge-driven economy and positioning MUST as a leader in research and innovation.

Simultaneously, the inauguration of MUST Holdings Company marked the university’s entry into entrepreneurial ventures. The company aims to bridge the gap between academic research and industry, managing innovations, creating sustainable revenue streams, and forming strategic partnerships with industry players.
This initiative will play a pivotal role in translating research outputs into market-ready products while generating income for the university and creating job opportunities for the local community.

The event featured inspiring speeches from industry leaders and government officials who lauded the university’s efforts to integrate academic excellence with practical applications. Attendees were treated to a showcase of innovative projects developed by MUST researchers, highlighting the university’s potential to contribute significantly to technological advancement and economic development. A tour of the Kihumuro Campus provided insights into the university’s facilities and the infrastructure supporting its ambitious innovation agenda.

The launch of TISC and MUST Holdings Company is expected to have a far-reaching impact on the region, catalyzing innovation and entrepreneurship while inspiring the next generation of researchers and innovators. Participants expressed optimism about the initiatives, which align with Uganda’s vision for sustainable development and a knowledge-based economy. As the event concluded, the sense of purpose and commitment among stakeholders underscored the transformative potential of these new ventures.
