National Information Technology Authority – Uganda (NITA-U), through the Regional Communications Infrastructure Program (RCIP) – Uganda Project, that aims at coverage for IT infrastructure in the country, delivery of public services by improving efficiency through government cloud infrastructure, Integration of Government IT systems, building capacity in management of IT programs and projects, improve policy and regulatory environment for ICT in country, launched the initiative in Ankole Sub region on 21st July 2022.
Empower Youth in Technology – EYIT, among other entities are beneficiaries of this project in the region.
EYIT’s current optical cable internet was connected by NITA-U, to serve young innovators in Mbarara seeking to use EYIT workspace.
At this launch, EYIT hailed NITA-U for the timely support.
“NITA-U’s internet is Fast, Reliable & Affordable, their team has fast response in case of glitches, this internet is now a backbone of our Hub activities, having had numbers of our daily young workspace users tripling. Our partnership with NITA-U has also strongly boosted our Funder Confidence.” – EYIT’s Sankara Byaruhanga said while presenting a testimonial at the launch.
Calling for continued partnership with NITA, EYIT also revealed plans to launch a Virtual Lab, in which practical science and innovative manufacturing classes can be broadcasted live from one center and gets projected to different schools at the same time. The other proposed initiative was to have Mbarara City Hackathon.
While talking at the function, the chief guest, Hon. Margaret Rwebyambu, the Mbarara district Woman MP was amazed with the work of EYIT, before calling on youths to rather change their mindset towards embracing government initiatives such as NITA-U.
EYIT was further hailed for working towards achieving NITA-U’s other focus, the digitalization of local governments, through their Primary Education Performance Assessment System (PEPAS) that is currently being piloted at Ibanda District Local Government.
NITA-U’s Regional Communications Infrastructure Program (RCIP) – Uganda Project grand launching at a national level will be on 30th July, 2022 in Gulu, an occasion that will be graced by H.E The President of The Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
