Empower Youth in Technology (EYIT) and Ibanda District Local Government have announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to implement an innovative Primary Education Performance Assessment System (PEPAS).
PEPAS is a mobile and web-based system, that tracks and analyses the performance of schools, learners, teachers, and headteachers and is aimed to improve the performance of primary schools in the district. PEPAS was developed by EYIT and integrated with a mobile application to enable headteachers to send and receive data from the district, including tracking teachers’ and learners’ attendance, appraising teachers, and sending pupils timely results.
At the launch and MOU signing ceremony, the Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Kweyamba Ruhemba praised EYIT for developing PEPAS, which is already helping headteachers and the district have a better understanding of their school’s performance and making data-driven decisions.
Mr. Tushabe Ronard, the Founder and Executive Director-EYIT, expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the Ibanda District Local Government for being the first district to implement PEPAS. He noted that the results of this implementation will inform further adoption and scalability of PEPAS to other districts in Uganda.
It is expected that the implementation of PEPAS will reduce learner dropout rates, and enable the District Educational Officer to get timely reports on appraisal, inspection, and learner performance in real-time. The system is planned to roll out to Mbarara City, Ibanda Municipality, and Isingiro District by the end of 2023.
